I totally disagree with you on the milk confetti syngonium. I have been looking for on ever since I first saw a pic of it. I finally found one at a reasonable price. It is one of my favorite plants. I do agree with the other plants and will never buy them.

I have had a few Calatheas turn brown & shrivel. The "rattlesnake" Calathea (now in a different genus) is a show-stopper, so I tried it & it has thrived in my bathroom for about 20 months now.

I totally agree on the topic of Calathea. I got them as a beginner and I never had a problem with them. I am an overwaterer, so they are not complaining too much. They get direct afternoon to evening sun in the warmer months and they love it and push out so much growth. And that root growth is insane. For me the fussiest is the picturata. I don't know if you have this, it has velvety undersides, but they are smooth on top. Very interesting. Also recommend to buy Calatheas as baby plants, it's so much easier to acclimate them to your conditions. And then as long as they don't change too much, they are happy

I just found your channel and subscibed, great video. I got my Thai Constellation baby from a local nursery. It has given me three new leaves in the three months that I have owned it. I am perfectly fine with slow growth. I was afraid of it supposely having root rot issues. But at $40, if it were to die, so be it. Worth taking a chance on it.

Hi! I’ve play with plants before and some of them survived. Since I started watching your videos I’ve been able to keep most of them alive. I am so grateful for all the knowledge and science base info that you gathered and put together in your videos. 1 week ago I sprayed my plants and the gnats problem is almost gone. The only downside is that some of my plants didn’t like it. Stromanthe, Calathea, neon Pothos and grey maranta had some side effects like new shoots burned, yellow leaves and wilting. Stromanthe (leaves are folding) and Rosy have grow lights. Old the others natural I sprayed and watered all of them at night and put them back to their repot in the morning. So I wonder if I should have waited longer. 🤷🏻‍♀️ all my other plants are doing good and gnats are minimal.

    Beautiful collections.

  • @williamlaine2116

I have, over many years, tried Maranta, & they have always turned brown. I got a Ctenthe, but its leaves turned brown, until I pruned it back & it is doing better in my basement. I recently tried a Calathea, but it turned brown & shriveled up. The one exception is my "rattlesnake" Calathea, which has thrived for about 20 months in my bathroom. However, it has been re-classified to a different genus, Goeppertia insignis, which may be why it seems to tolerate somewhat lower humidity than Calathea. I use rain water & de-humidifier water for my house plants. About your Maranta with faded leaves, can too much light cause leaves to fade?

I also upgraded my windows and they all have that UV protection now. I have a ton of plants in the south facing windows and I find I have to add grow lights too! I had an African Violet for like 5 or 6 years and it never flowered for me it all. I kept in what I thought was bright indirect light as instructed on the label. I even forgot to water the poor thing for the longest times. I threw it in with a few other plants I put in my south facing kitchen windows one day and the dang thing bloomed for me!! After that my local grocery store has them very frequently on clearance in a very poor state. I bought like 4 or 5 more for $1.50 each and they all are in bloom and doing great. They need much more light than they tell you. Even my snake plant lives on the window sill and loves it. I bought those windows so my furniture would not fade but the plants love it more. But in regards to Hoyas. I am not a fan of the chunky leaves for some reason. I think they look and feel fake to me. And then I hear they are spidermite magnets. Although, Wild Fern has the most gorgeous Hoya Linearis hanging from her large window ledge and it's breath taking! I did go and buy a starter plant Linearis and it's growing but OMG I will be dead and gone before this thing is even big enough for a 2 inch pot!! When I see one for a decent price I will get a real plant of this one. I am a HUGE fan of Aglaonemas!! I can't get enough of them! I have many varieties and I am looking for others! I just love them! Syngoniums are another of my favs!! I have them everywhere!! I stuck several out on my north facing covered front porch to bulk up over the summer! I love them!! I had a really bushy White Butterfly about 40 years ago and I want another one just like it. My vets office had a HUGE one that was a good 3 feet tall and just as wide! It was gorgeous getting the morning east sun! I love all the Pothos as well!! I have them all and love them all! I just put my Majula on a moss pole because I love Sidney Plants Guys Manjula, gorgeous!! I LOVE your ctenathe's!! They are both gorgeous!! I have them both too but mine are not as big as yours, but they are getting there. I love that genre anyway, I have many plants from this one. But that White Fusion!!!! OMG!!! I am on like my 3 or 4th one now and praying it survives!! Holy Crap!! Yours is amazing!! One plant I was looking for on your list was the Peace Lily. This is another species I just love and have several varieties. My all time, hands down fav is the Platinum Mist. I bought 4 4" pots and put them all into like a 10 or 12 inch terra cotta pot about 2 years ago now, and it looks amazing!! Just stunning! I also have a Dominoe and the huge one, (can't remember the name, "Supreme??" ), and both of them are troopers handling under watering very well. I use a moisture meter so I don't over water too much anymore, but I love this species very much. Sorry for the book I have written here, LOL.

.. I love my Syngoniums, all of them, and I got the many.. My Pixie though, I bought out of curiosity and she was the cutest little syngonium ever.. Now she's twice her size both taller and fuller, and even though she won't get any bigger than that, she's so very cute.. Now you made me want the Glo Go too, maybe they're siblings?? 🤔 ☺️ I love my scindapsus, all of them.. They are so easy and so crazy at the same time.. Two leaves gone and they look leggy and weird, not too much water, not too little, they don't want attention but prefer to be left alone😳 my epipremnums are more or less the same way, but they will scream after you if left alone for too long.. Now you made me wish for a Jade's and Pearls ☺️ I love my Snow Queen dearly.. She's a rescue that I found where our garden trash are collected.. She was on the brink of death and I really wasn't sure if she would survive.. Now a year later she's adorable and so big and beautiful.. She's next to my Micans in hope that she can tell her that growing isn't the worst thing to do 😉 my Brazil is amazing really.. I took cuttings from her last year and they are growing up a moss pole.. Mother hanging right above still looking gorgeous.. I've got same ctenanthe plants as you and they are my dearest, they are so easy going and don't make a fuzz out of anything, they just want their water, some light and clean leaves.. And they are blooming too.. My white fusion is just a baby, seriously a baby in a 1 inch pot 😳 I really hope she survives.. She's so cute, but scary.. I'm usually not very good with that small plants.. It's a looong way for her to grow as big as yours 🥺And then there's my Heart Leaf, Golden Pothos, my all my maranta's 🤗 and my beautiful Triostar ☺️🤗 Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and your time.. It's always interesting and fun..

  • @sachi0488

I love my red maranta even though it's a "common" plant. Just really proud it started as a one leaf propagation, survived, and now after chop/prop is a full 3 inch plant. To me rare plant is kind of overrated, it's funner to pick plants that just "vibe" with you even if they are common.

They grow slow for people because they let them dry out all the way. I find they do better with normal watering, maybe give that a try. - I LOVE Calatheas! Just treat them as you would a fern and you are golden! Yeah I have to agree, I think Calatheas and especially Ferns are highly under-rated. If the top is just slightly damp, it's time to water, whereas with other plants it's harder for me to know.

I bought mine a couple months ago. I repotted it into my chunky mix & put it on a moss pole. I water my poles every 4 days b4 the moss becomes hydrophobic. The color is good, the lighting & humidity is great, but instead of sizing up, the leaves are getting smaller & smaller. I can’t figure it out. All of my other plants are thriving & sizing up appropriately. I fertilize weakly with every watering except once or twice a month. It’s growing fine, just not sizing up. I’m stumped by this. Idk if it’s genetics or if there’s something not quite right in my home. Any ideas? I don’t have pest issues either.

This is a great video! I have a question. This video is considerably more current than the one showing how to make your own homemade DIY pest spray. At that time you said you had used your spray twice and planned to use it as a preventative treatment once a month. Have you followed through with that plan and has it been a success? Or have you had reinfestation of pests which prompted you to make this video? I ask because I just spent $50 on the soaps and 1-gal spray bottle and am preparing to spray all my plants (over 200, so I'm really hoping you've been successful long-term). Thanks for all your great content. This is the most useful plant channel I watch by far. Great, concise presentation.

I love my prayer plants, my Burle Marx and Peacock are doing great and are my fastest growers. No brown or yellow leaves, no drooping and are very bushy. Was very afraid when I bought them and did my research. Don't come for me, but they're on a south facing window, I'm an underwaterer, and my area is semi desertic, so I don't even know what I'm doing. Maybe they're growing so much because they're afraid of my parenting skills and wanna reach the door and flee. Who knows.

Something everyone should keep in mind about pine bark specifically, is that the compounds in soft woods/conifers can be toxic to animals and even plants in high enough concentrations if left to leach into water. I would never recommend using pine bark for anything that lives in bog like conditions, for structure and surface area in hydroponic gardens, or closed systems like terrariums, ripariums, paludariums, aquariums, or even just no-drainage pots. This means things like carnivorous plants, most mosses, very low growing wetland plants, emergent/marginal plants like cryptocoryne and anubias, true amphibious plants like bacopas, and even things like certain bulbs and aroids depending on how you keep them.

I love this video! I swear I cannot look at another velvety Anthurium, everyone seems to rave about their new hybrids and so on. And let's be honest: I'd rather have a "simple", hardy plant that looks absolutely fabulous than a rare plant, that only has one leaf and looks on the brink of death. Also: yes yes yes to Calathea White Fusion. I have a lot of prayer plants and especially this one gives me so much joy. Another is the Calathea picturata - it has velvety backsides, but the upside of the leaf is smooth. I never felt that on a plant before. To top that off: my makoyana has flowered for me this year again. I love Calatheas so much, they bring me so much joy And yes, I also need to cut my Micans every few weeks in summer. I love the look when the evening sun shines on it and it is mixed in greens and reds ❤

I love your excitement talking about your babies! And I agree about all of them, especially the ctenanthe. I recently got the Burke marxii and it’s doubled in size in two months, has NO browning, yellowing, and definitely can tolerate drying out much better than calathea. Also, mines in low humidity here in CO. I love this plant, and it’s beautiful!

I actually purchased my first alo because of the pretty backside. I was tired of my philos being rude and turning their backs on me, and i'm way too unorganized to rotate my plants on a regular schedule. Now i have four alos with gorgeous backsides in my window. Two amazonica with the dark purple back, and a silver dragon with the gorgeous purple veins. ❤

The white fusion is gorgeous, why would anyone not like it. I also like the burle marxii which I ordered recently but was sent another version of it which is not nice at all. Thanks for sharing this interesting video.

Shhhh.... Don't alert ppl to beauty and ease of care for aglaonemas!!! Year after year, I keep being scared they are going to jump up in price and become hard to find. They are in my top 3 favorite plant categories along with, hoyas and monsteras!!

I completely agree with you about the White Fusion. I bought one after seeing your stunning plant. I washed off all the soil and planted into pon (without a transition). It never missed a beat, has no crisping on the leaves and has doubled in size for me 😍

I love your beautiful White Fusion. I have had a 4" pot one I purchased from Etsy 3 months ago and so far so good. Also, I am with you in the appreciation of the small leafed Hoya. They have my heart too. I really enjoy your videos. Great lessons and information. Thank you for sharing.

All of the philodendron hederaceum varieties are too tier. I love the way they cascade so fully like a waterfall. Better than Pothos IMO.

I started to fall in love with Hoyas when I started getting into houseplants, however, once I learned they were mealy bug magnets, I tossed all mine out. Truly broke my heart to do so, but I refuse to get a pest infestation that will never go away as long as I have a hoya in my collection. I also don't want my other plants to end up being constantly infested with mealybugs because they're sitting next to a hoya. As much as I love them, they don't seem worth the inevitable future headache.
